We had a lovely full-circle moment with this project. Back in 2010, we designed the Travelodge on Justice Mill Lane, and when Sydney and London Properties, along with Homes for Students UK, decided to reimagine it as purpose-built student accommodation, they asked us back to see it through from planning approval stage to completion.

The location really couldn’t be better for students as it is right in the heart of things, with buses, the train station, shops, and all the social spots just a stone’s throw away.

We transformed the 8-storey building into 101 modern studios, offering everything from single rooms to one-bedroom apartments and fully accessible options, so there’s something to suit different needs and budgets. Each studio comes with its own en-suite bathroom, kitchen, and study space.

The project has plenty of inviting communal areas: cinema, gym, club rooms, a generous student lounge, and a private dining room where friendships can flourish over shared meals and late-night study sessions.

The old basement car park was particularly challenging, but we are really pleased with how it’s been transformed into a vibrant games room, additional study areas, and secure bike storage.

We also gave the building an upgrade with a new sprinkler system for safety, A1 cladding, and larger windows throughout to maximise the quality of light and views out from the studios.

Working alongside DML as project managers and the skilled crew at Clark Contracts, we delivered something the students have absolutely loved moving into – which is exactly what you want to hear!
