When Denholm Seafoods reached out to us, they faced a challenge that many successful businesses encounter – their operations had outgrown their facilities. The company needed to transform two large, deteriorating storage buildings into a modern, efficient complex that could meet the high demand for their products while significantly expanding their cold storage capabilities.

The project’s setting couldn’t be more dramatic – positioned at Scotland’s most easterly point in the bustling harbour of Peterhead, we had the unique opportunity to create a facility that would not only serve as a robust, functional coldstore and office space but also celebrate the spectacular panoramic views of Scotland’s rugged coastline.

Our comprehensive design solution centred around an impressive 3,500 square metre cold store complete with integrated racking systems, ensuring maximum storage efficiency for Denholm Seafoods’ products. We incorporated four strategically positioned loading bays to streamline their logistics operations, while a thoughtfully designed two-storey office building sits above, offering staff those breathtaking coastal and harbour views that make this location so special.

Understanding that modern food operations require flexibility, we also upgraded and converted the existing warehouse into a smaller, more focused production area. This transformation was carefully planned to optimize production line flow and significantly enhance process productivity – ensuring every aspect of their operation worked in harmony.

The technical aspects of this project presented some fascinating challenges that really brought out the best in our collaborative approach. Working hand-in-hand with the main contractor James Lovie and Structural Engineers Ramsay & Chalmers – we tackled the complex portal frame design required for the building’s large spans and impressive height. It was particularly rewarding to work through these engineering puzzles as a unified team.

The end result is a facility that not only meets today’s demanding operational requirements but positions Denholm Seafoods perfectly for continued expansion and success in Scotland’s thriving seafood industry.
